The inverter converts DC power from your panels to AC for your home. Choosing the right type โ string, microinverter, or hybrid โ matters as much as the panels themselves.
Best for: Unshaded roofs, budget-conscious installs
Best for: Complex roofs, partial shading
Best for: Anyone planning to add battery storage

GCC AC grids operate at 230V single-phase / 400V three-phase, 50 Hz. Inverters marketed for the EU market typically work directly; US-spec 240V/60Hz hardware does not. Always verify your inverter's firmware has an operating profile for DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, SEC, or Kahramaa โ as appropriate to your country โ before purchase.
Yes. In the UAE, grid-tied inverters must appear on the DEWA, ADDC, SEWA, or FEWA approved-products list (depending on emirate). In Saudi Arabia, SEC requires inverter compliance with the Small-scale Solar PV Systems Regulatory Framework and associated technical standards. In Qatar, Kahramaa maintains the approved list. Check your installer is using listed hardware โ otherwise commissioning can be refused.
Yes. Most string and hybrid inverters begin derating their output above 40โ45ยฐC ambient. For rooftop or outdoor installation in UAE/KSA summers, choose an inverter with ventilation-friendly mounting, a derating curve that stays flat to 50โ55ยฐC, and an IP65 or better enclosure. Microinverters (Enphase IQ8, IQ8+) are more sensitive to roof-level heat and may underperform in the peak summer months compared with ground-mounted string inverters.
A string inverter only converts DC from panels to AC for the grid. A hybrid inverter does that too, plus it manages charging and discharging a battery bank. If you plan to add a battery within 5 years, a hybrid inverter is cheaper and more efficient than retrofitting storage to a string setup โ especially relevant in the GCC where battery storage extends AC-driven solar self-consumption into the evening.
String and hybrid inverters typically last 10โ15 years (warranty 5โ12 years) in temperate climates. Sustained high ambient temperatures in the GCC compress this โ budget for inverter replacement at year 8โ12 on a rooftop install unless the inverter is in a shaded, well-ventilated location. Enphase microinverters carry 25-year warranties but should still be sized conservatively given rooftop heat.
