A typical GCC home uses significant energy on air-conditioning alone โ often 40โ60 kWh/day in summer. For overnight backup (6pmโ8am) with reduced AC load, you'd need 15โ25 kWh of usable capacity. Most home batteries are 10โ20 kWh โ you may need to stack two units for full overnight coverage through peak summer.
Yes โ batteries degrade faster in sustained high temperatures. LFP chemistry handles heat much better than NMC and is strongly recommended for the GCC. For batteries installed in unconditioned spaces (garage, outdoor wall, rooftop enclosure), look for units rated to at least 50ยฐC operating temperature and ideally ones that include active thermal management.
For outdoor or semi-outdoor installation in the Gulf, look for at least IP65 (dust-tight + protected against water jets). Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ Battery 5P, and most Huawei LUNA units are rated IP65 or better. Indoor-only batteries (IP20, IP21) must be in a conditioned space to avoid premature failure from dust ingress and heat.

DEWA (Dubai), ADDC (Abu Dhabi), SEWA (Sharjah), and Kahramaa (Qatar) permit battery storage alongside net-metered PV; Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) permits storage under the Small-scale Solar PV regulatory framework. The battery must not export stored grid energy back (anti-islanding and export-control are enforced by the hybrid inverter) โ your installer configures this as part of commissioning.
Total (nameplate) capacity is the battery's full rated storage. Usable capacity is how much you can actually discharge โ most batteries reserve 5โ10% to protect the chemistry. Always compare usable capacity, not total. LFP systems typically expose 95โ100% as usable; NMC systems more often reserve 10%.
